February 10, 2008
I'm pleased, on behalf of gnovis, Georgetown University's peer-reviewed journal of Communication, Culture & Technology, to belatedly welcome CCT's faculty, staff, alumni and students back to campus for the Spring 2008 semester. I hope your semester is off to a wonderful start.
If you didn't have a chance, over the holidays, to check out our website (www.gnovisjournal.org), I hope you will do so now. We published a new issue on December 10th, which included 6 wonderful papers and was, to our knowledge, the largest single publication in gnovis' seven year history.
Following up on this very successful Fall semester, we've decided to aim even higher this spring by publishing two issues, our regularly planned Spring Issue and a themed Special Issue, tentatively titled "New Media, Technology and Elections."
Spring Issue - Deadline March 1st
Much like last semester, we will be publishing a regular issue this spring. We welcome papers on a broad range of interdisciplinary topics. Our submission deadline is fast approaching, so clean up your Fall finals and send them our way (submit@gnovisjournal.org). Review our website for examples of past papers, as well as submission guidelines.
Special Issue: New Media, Technology, and Elections - Deadline June 1st (tentative)
We're very excited to be working on this timely issue, scheduled for publication mere months before the 2008 US Presidential Election. The details are still in the works, but we're looking forward to receiving your papers on "The YouTube Election," citizen journalism, electronic voting, media consolidation, and any other subject that considers how contemporary media and technology tools and trends are influencing any component of the election process, domestically or abroad.
Peer Reviewers Needed
Peer reviewers are the key to the successful publication of our journal, and peer reviewing is also a great way to learn about the publishing process and improve your editing and writing. We can always use more reviewers and, in particular, this is a great time for first year students to get involved, as many of our second year reviewers are bogged down by their thesis work this semester. Please get involved! Reply to this email to get started.
Reminder: We've got a blog!
If you haven't added our RSS feed to your favorite RSS Reader, I hope you'll consider doing so now. We've settled into a consistent rhythm over the last five months, and you can rely on at least one or two insightful entries every week. We also welcome blog contributions from all CCT students, so don't hesitate to create an account and start posting.
Finally, thank you to everyone in the CCT community for your wonderful support over the past six months. We set our sights very high last semester, but still managed to exceed them, and we owe much of our success to the dynamic, supportive and collaborative academic culture that surrounds us every day.
If you have any questions about our upcoming issues, or would like to get involved with gnovis in any capacity, please contact us via email: info (at) gnovisjournal.org
